It’s hard to believe that last year we celebrated 35 years. For us, this milestone is quite an achievement. Considering we started out as a small retail space to serve the Hunter region, we never dreamed that one day we’d be dealing with over 400 producers and delivering wine to over 200,000 happy customers.
Since the company’s inception in 1975, our core values have remained unchanged. The very nature of Australian wine has always been of the utmost importance, especially the notion of supporting the smaller producers, the boutique growers who we consider to be the backbone of the industry.
It all started in the Hunter Valley, providing one central location for up to 25 local producers to sell their wines. We still work closely with many of these producers today, such as Tyrrell’s, McWilliam’s, Hungerford Hill, Tulloch Wines and Drayton’s.
From these humble beginnings we realised our vision; to provide Australians with a chance to have premium wines delivered to their door. Starting with an initial base of less than 100 Members, we are proud to have emerged as the largest independent direct marketer of wine in the country, delivering countless cases of wine each year to over 200,000 customers.
What started out as a way to discover the great wines of the Hunter then became our basis for the very popular Regional Series. Launched in 1986, this highly successful delivery plan enables Australians to literally experience 12 premium wine regions without leaving home! The Regional Series Selection remains unique in the Australian wine industry enabling our customers to sample a different region in each delivery
Once we proved that this model for sharing wines really worked, producers were keen to get onboard and share the journey, enabling their wines to reach a far greater audience. Now our roots run deep into nearly every wine region in the country, with up to 400 producers all belonging to the extended Wine Selectors family.
From the offset we have nurtured close relationships, which we have maintained for over three decades, allowing us to work in unison with producers who share our beliefs and their desire to share the authentic taste of Australian wine. We work together, providing them the ideal way to sell their wines beyond the cellar door. The concept has not really changed since the early days; we unearth wines, selecting only the best, ensuring that the customer always gets nothing less than quality wine.
And we’ve always strived to maintain extraordinary quality, relying on a Tasting Panel of wine experts to choose the wines, never compromising on what’s in the bottle.
It has been a pleasure to see the Tasting Panel evolve; it now comprises four winemakers, four wine show judges and a wine educator with over 150 years of wine knowledge amassed between them. This invaluable experience is a reason why every wine you try from your selections is so good, because each bottle has personally been tasted, judged and rated by experts.
Our increased presence nationally means that you’ll see us at major events and at airports spreading the word that there really is a better way to buy wine. We are there on the frontline every day, meeting people, gathering their feedback and changing the way they buy wine, so that convenience and quality are paramount.
We are excited about growing further in the years ahead and no other wine company deals with as many producers and offers such a diverse range of wines. After all, it’s what we’ve done for 35 years and will continue to do so for many more to come. Most importantly, we could never have come this far without the support of our customers who we’d like to thank for sharing our vision and showing us their support. We very much hope all our customers continue to enjoy drinking quality Australian wine as much as we do and be with us for the next three decades as well.
