Orange, NSW
Orange is part of the New South Wales Central Ranges along with Mudgee and Cowra. At around 900 metres above sea level, Orange has the highest vineyard elevation in the state. Interestingly, Orange is almost climatically identical to the famous French appellation of Bordeaux (Medoc) and winemakers have the luxury of cool weather to retain delicate flavours and enough sunlight to achieve ripening.
One of the region’s most spectacular natural attractions is the extinct volcano, Mt Canobolas, which has vineyards planted at its base.
