In May, we asked you what wine varieties you associated with different regions and the regions which produce your favourite wines.
We discovered that Wine Selectors Members are a well-educated bunch! The majority of you were able to make the association between a particular wine region and its signature variety. For example, over 60% of Members indicated that Shiraz was the most well known wine variety to come out of the Barossa Valley. Even when a region had two signature varieties, Members were still on the money. Almost 55% of respondents selected either Cabernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc for Margaret River and Shiraz or Semillon for Hunter Valley.

Out of the five regions included in the Survey, the Barossa Valley and Margaret River came out on top. It gives us great pleasure to know that our Members are gaining a more ‘Australia wide’ knowledge of and respect for our great wine regions.

If you’d like to find out more about wine regions, varieties and food and wine matching, there’s plenty to learn in the About Wine section of our website.
