Granite Belt

An emerging cool climate region in Queensland, the Granite Belt is situated with the New South Wales border to the south. The main commercial centre is Stanthorpe.

There is a rapidly growing number of wineries in the region and just over half of them are growing alternative varieties.

Granite soils are typically sandy and well drained, which is good for viticulture and is said to impart a mineral aspect to the wines. The red wines of the region have flavours of plum, cherry and blackcurrant, while Chardonnay and Verdelho are the standout white wine varieties.
