Australia's largest wine auction house, Langton's, classifies Leeuwin's Art Series Chardonnay in its top exceptional category. In this 2003 example, the fresh nose, which is classical Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay, displays intensely lifted aromas of ripe, yellow pear skins, citrus blossom petals, nectarine and ripe peach. This is accompanied by hints of fig and cashews from barrel maturation on yeast lees with integrated charry French oak. The rich, full-bodied palate displays mouth-filling and intense flavours of fresh, ripe pears intermingled with delicious stone fruit and nectarine flavours. The new French oak complements the fruit, providing a wonderful balance of warm, toasty flavours on the finish.
