Coonawarra

After years and years of visiting both Coonawarra and the Limestone Coast, I sitll get a huge buzz when the call comes for me to source even more outstanding South Australian wines. Coonawarra with its famous terra rosa soil and the Limestone Coast with its maritime influences, coupled with the unique characters who shape and make the wines from each region, makes for a very special experience.

- Trent Mannell, Wine Show Judge

One million years ago the Limestone Coast was part of the Southern Ocean. Coonawarra (Aboriginal for Honeysuckle) is at the centre of the Limestone Coast and is famous for its narrow strip of rich, red terra rossa soil sitting atop deep limestone. This stretch of soil, which is only 15km long by 1.5km wide, contributes significantly to the grape quality and fine structure of the wines. A must visit is the Naracoorte Caves National Park for those interested in exploring underground caves, fossil sites and bat colonies.
