The cool climate of King Valley produces magical Merlot like this 2014 High Plains by Sam Miranda. Grown on a north-eastern facing slope in the cooler upper King Valley at 300m above sea level, it’s a very rich expression of the varietal.
In the glass: Youthful deep red purple.
On the nose: Inky dark fruit concentration of plum, currant, clove and liquorice.
On the palate: Deep, dark and fleshy, it’s characterised by loads of super ripe concentration yet it still manages to avoid being jammy or hot. Overall, this is a very rich expression of Merlot.
