The Italian word ‘artigiano’ means ‘artisan’ and the Galli Estate have certainly crafted a work of art in this Trophy winning Chardonnay made by Ben Ranken.
The hand-picked fruit was whole bunch pressed. Free-run juice was settled for 48 hours, and clear juice with a small amount of solids was taken to ferment. After starting the fermentation in stainless steel, it was moved to French Vosges oak. After ferment, a portion of the barrels was stirred twice weekly. About 20% remained in stainless steel; the balance remaining in oak until final blending.
Peach, melon, fig and almond aromas lead to a palate with layers of peach and grapefruit in a ripe and juicy style balanced by racy acidity and the smart addition of oak.
