Award-winning winemaker Geoff Hardy established the Kuitpo vineyard used for his K1 range of wines in 1987. The fruit of this vineyard is so highly regarded that it is often purchased by neighbouring wineries. The fruit was fermented, pressed and then matured for 18 months in a combination of French oak and American hogshead barrels. Inky black with a deep red rim in the glass, this wine has intense blackcurrant aromas plus hints of cassis and black olives. Dried herbs and spice add a savoury complexity to the ripe fruit present on the palate. The youthful tannins are still slightly grippy and will soften further with age.
