Ceravolo Petit Verdot 2009

A minor grape variety of Bordeaux, Petit Verdot in Australia is normally blended with other red varieties to enhance their colour, flavour and tannin structure. It’s interesting then to have an opportunity to taste a straight example.
 
Deep crimson black in the glass, it features inky blood plum and intense earthy aromas. Full of concentrated black fruit power, the dense, super inky palate is an excellent example of Petit Verdot with its huge core of deep, fleshy fruit, glorious, almost brutish tannin power and a minty, leafy varietal edge giving freshness.
