Every dark, brooding and beautiful red wine in this dozen has been awarded at least one Gold medal. Now just $16.50 a bottle, and including a Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Quartage with 3 x Gold medals, a 2 x Gold medal-winning Leconfield Merlot and more, there’s little wonder it has been selling like hot cakes.
The Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Quartage 2015 is a 3 x Gold medal-winner and was crafted using four different varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot, all grown in the Barossa Valley. The palate shows developing milk chocolate and cedar over a still-fresh core of berry compote with good balance of fruit, tannins, acidity and cedary oak in support. It finishes with touches of black pepper and bay leaf on the long, dry and savoury finish.
Although Coonawarra is justifiably famous for its Cabernet, there are some amazing Merlot's produced there too as the 2 x Gold medal-winning Leconfield Merlot 2017 shows.
Vibrant and ripe black fruits throughout with graphite, olive and mint complexity, fine yet powerful tannins, elevated acidity and a lingering, generous finish.
