Geoff Hardy began planting his Kuitpo vineyard in 1987. It’s also known as the K1 vineyard, as it was the first to be planted in the southern extremity of the Adelaide Hills, and consistently produces standout wines like this 2009 Chardonnay.
The gently extracted juice from the handpicked fruit was barrel fermented in French oak, 20% new and 80% between two and five years old.
Bright straw in colour with green tints, it presents a spicy mix of nectarine, mandarin and barrel-derived fumé character. The palate is tight, youthful and poised with white peach fruit intensity and citrussy length, refined oak and crisp Chablis-like acidity.
