The Style-setter in your life will have something to savour with exquisite Shiraz from two of Australia’s best-performing regions for the variety, the Hunter and Barossa Valleys, in a wine double-feature fit for a king or queen!
Kaesler’s The Bogan Shiraz 2016 (valued at $65 RRP) is a mammoth wine. Winner of 2 x Trophies at the 2018 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, this is a classic Barossa Valley expression with a polished and powerful intensity.
Concentrated yet retaining a touch of elegance with a fine tannin foundation driving its bright core of dark fruit, it shows attractive savoury spice throughout and a long, generous finish. A masterclass in Shiraz, and a delight to be enjoyed by itself, or with osso bucco and creamy mash.
The 2018 vintage proved to be a great year for the Hunter, and Dan Binet has made a great wine from it with the Ballabourneen Pokolbin Hill Shiraz 2018. This sumptuous wine is medium to full-bodied in a classic regional style, with a peppery mix of dark fruits, well balanced tannins and acidity, bay leaf and new leather complexity, and well-judged oak in support. A classic in the making, it’s one to savour with beautifully slow-cooked beef dishes.
