The 2021 Shay's Flat Cabernet Sauvignon ($75 RRP) is the first release of this wine from Joshua Cooper, who has quickly established himself as one of the most talented and cutting-edge young winemakers in the country. Savour the dense, rich and ripe black and purple fruit, astride deep and long tannins, expressive notes of cola, pine needle and black tea, savoury toasty oak and a mocha-like finish.
2020 provided a near-perfect vintage in Margaret River and produced superb wines including the Cape Landing Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2020. It delivers a classic Cabernet palate, with cassis, bay leaf, Indian ink and toasty oak, good concentration, and a long, full finish. Lovely now but will continue to cellar well.
