Perhaps not as identifiable as a Hunter staple red variety like Shiraz, Merlot can be made well in the region as this generous expression from Tinklers shows.
Deep dark red. Plum, mulberry, leather and charcuterie. An earthy, savoury Merlot with a firm foundation of tannins under the dark core of fruit, good acid structure, background oak and a long, full-flavoured finish.
