The 2005 is an absolutely classic Semillon which was crafted from hand-picked and lightly crushed fruit that underwent a cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks. After a short period on lees, the wine was racked and left to mature in steel vats for a further five months.
Having accumulated five Trophies and 25 Gold medals, this Semillon glows green with an appropriate hint of gold in the glass. Gorgeous lemon butter, lanolin and toast with a lifted freshness allure on the nose. The palate displays juicy lemon, straw, talc, secondary honey and buttered toast flavours. It’s alive with perfect acidity and mouth-watering length, which will only develop further over the coming years.
Bruce Tyrrell loves the 2006 Semillons for their flavour and fruit sweetness. It’s incredibly youthful in colour, with a still-vivid green hue. The nose shows rich preserved lemon aromas with a hint of lanolin development adding complexity. The palate shows a seamless structure that is only seen in classic vintages. The tension between the powerful citrus fruit and fresh lemony acidity is the key to this wine with a wonderful soft texture in the mid palate connecting the two.
In addition to the six trophies and 11 Gold medals, the 2006 Vat 1 Semillon took out the James Busby Annual Prize for Best Wine or Brandy by a NSW Exhibitor in Any Class at the 2012 Sydney Royal Wine Show. Delcious!
