From way out west comes the unmistakeable character of WA Cabernet Sauvignon in this cracking dozen, featuring mid-to-full-weight, fruit-driven Cabernets from prime regions including Manjimup, Margaret River and Great Southern for only $17 a bottle.
From the well-established Credaro family vineyard and winemaker Dave Johnson comes the Credaro Five Tales Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 from Margaret River. With blackcurrant, anise and spearmint aromas, the palate shows terrific berry and currant power with great length, plus deluxe oak and savoury olive and herb complexity. The wine will improve with cellaring, but is also great now enjoyed with a lamb ragout with pappardelle.
Another great drop is the Rockcliffe Quarram Rocks Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. A marvellous example of a Great Southern Cabernet, it’s medium weight with cassis and currant fruit in a strongly varietal frame with fresh herb, mint and green capsicum notes, chocolatey richness, youthful tannin grip and a long finish. Sweetly fruited, it’s best enjoyed with rich Asian dishes like sticky Chinese pork ribs.
If you haven’t sampled Cabernet Sauvignons from WA yet, you haven’t lived. Grab some today and save a red hot $67.
