The Wine Show awards circuit is extraordinarily competitive, but the wines within this selection soared above the field in 2019, all meeting with wide acclaim for their sheer regional and varietal quality. With a combined 49 Gold medals and Trophies between them, these are the 2019 Wine Show Heavyweights, yours for only $216 – a saving of $98 off the combined RRP, with the Hungerford Hill Classic Series Pinot Noir 2018 (valued at $45) and a bonus Awards Guide included.
Mudgee is not typically known for its Riesling but winemaker Jacob Stein may have changed that perception with the highly-awarded Robert Stein Dry Riesling 2019. Winner of 2 x Trophies and 10 x Gold medals, it’s light yet with an intense core of flavour showing as fresh-cut lime, lemon sherbet, guava and jasmine. Powerfully flavoursome yet with purity and elegance and a saline texture, it’s a mouth-watering wine that is great now, but which will reward further with cellaring.
From the Hilltops region of NSW comes the McWilliam’s McW Reserve 660 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. Full of concentrated dark berry fruit power with sweet toasty oak support, it shows excellent varietal character though is also rich and chocolatey with persistent flavour length. A very well made wine, made especially pleasing when paired with sharp aged cheese like a cloth-aged cheddar.
This selection will undoubtedly sell out. Line your cellar with gold today for a stunning $18 a bottle, and get your bonus Awards Guide free.
