Romantic Rhône & Seine
If you love Shiraz, a pilgrimage to France to visit the hallowed Rhône Valley is a must, and what better way to do so than by cruising through the main artery of its vinous heart, the mighty Rhône River.
Explore the many faces of Syrah (Shiraz), from the perfumed, fleshy reds of St Joseph, to the chalky, savoury wines of Cornas; the smokey, dark fruited, early drinking charm of Crozes-Hermitage through to the heady, exotic and seductive wines of the Côte Rôtie.
This region of France is a sightseeing and historical mecca. Visit Avignon’s Palace of the Popes, experience true Provençal beauty at the village of Garde-Adhémar, or marvel at the ancient Roman aqueduct, the Pont Du Gard, cocktail in hand with a background of live music by local musicians.
Foodie favourites
If food is your passion, you will be well satisfied. Go truffle hunting, visit the Drôme region and taste the world’s best nougat at a renowned family factory, or enjoy a mouth-watering onboard chocolate demonstration.
From there, move north into the Beaujolais region and explore delicate expressions of Gamay and Pinot Noir, then head into the spiritual home of France’s cuisine, Lyon. Explore the famous markets, the vast culinary culture and dine at L’Abbaye de Collonges, the famous restaurant founded by acclaimed French chef, the late Paul Bocuse.
From there, train into Paris to see the sights, before boarding an Aria river ship and sailing to Vernon, and visiting Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny. Next is Honfleur, Normandy's most charming port town and the centre of the Calvados application. The charming fishing village of Caudebec-en-Caux follows, where you'll experience a World War II excursion to Normandy, or travel to the stunning Pays de Caux region and visit a traditional cider farm.
Next you loop back and spend your final two days heading to Paris through Rouen and Les Andelys, where you can visit the site of the Battle of the Somme, Notre Dame Cathedral, visit the ruins of Château Gaillard or experience the famous Château de la Roche-Guyon.
