Western Australia Gourmet Escape 2019

Each November, Western Australia Gourmet Escape (presented by Westpac) showcases the best food and wine from Margaret River and Swan Valley, backed by live music and international culinary talent. Locals and visitors alike can sip and feast at any number of the 45 events taking place throughout the region between November 8 – 17.

Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White once described Gourmet Escape as “the greatest food event on earth.” We’ve combed through the impressive line-up and selected the highlights that will lift the festival in 2019.

All Star Line-Up

A depth of culinary talent is descending upon Western Australia led by David Chang, the celebrated chef behind the Momofuku restaurant group and star of the Netflix series Ugly Delicious. David is bringing a taste of Momofuku to an evening at Margaret River’s Castle Rock Beach.

Dubbed the first rock-star chef, Marco Pierre White helped kick-start the careers of Heston Blumenthal and Gordon Ramsay. His acclaimed book White Heat is widely regarded as one of the most influential recipe books of the last 30 years. Marco will be discussing the past, present and future of food, signing copies of his book and cooking up a storm at the two-day Gourmet Feast in the Valley.

Vegans, vegos and healthy eaters will appreciate the arrival of Amanda Cohen, the James Beard-nominated chef and owner of Dirt Candy. Considered leader of the vegetable-forward movement, Amanda’s restaurant has earned multiple Michelin stars and she was credited as being the first vegetarian chef to compete on Iron Chef America. Amanda will be appearing on panel discussions and hosting a sold-out vegetarian degustation dinner.

Wine Time

Western Australia has a reputation for producing delectable wines that rate highly on the global stage. Gourmet Escape is shining a light on these producers by pairing their wines with first-class dishes and serving them up alongside live music. Many of Wine Selectors’ favourite WA winemakers are hosting events throughout the 10-day festival, providing extra incentives to visit their cellar doors. Be sure to check for events at Vasse Felix, Cullen Wines, Cape Mentelle, Wills Domain and Voyager Estate.
