Five Reasons to Love Verdelho

With flavours like red apple, guava, pineapple and paw paw, Verdelho is a fantastic fruity style to enjoy right now as we shake off the shackles of winter. Like another local favourite - Shiraz, Verdelho is a style Australia has adopted as its own. The key difference is that we are now the leading producers of this white variety. It's light, it's fresh and it’s great for when exploring foods from around the world.

It's a Perfect Varietal for Spring

It's Spring. The weather is finally warming up, meaning less time spent around the fire. Instead, we're heading into the great outdoors to soak up the sun, and just like how the seasons' change, our wine tastes shift accordingly.

A light and refreshing Verdelho is perfect for lunching alfresco or packing for a picnic in the park. It's getting warmer by the day, and so it's only a matter of time before poolside becomes a suitable location to indulge. Drink young and fresh!

Pairs Well with Food

All great wines pair deliciously with particular styles of cuisine. Verdelho is no exception. The fruit-driven flavours and tropical freshness of Verdelho pair exceptionally well with white meat and fish, salads and spicy Asian food. Pop a bottle to enjoy alongside fresh oysters, green chicken curry, or try a bottle with smoked chicken breast and your favourite sides.

Of course, you can always replace food with music and good company, and a bottle of Verdelho is just as enjoyable.

Perfect Starting Point for Your Wine Journey

The light-bodied, sweet but not-too-sweet style of Verdelho makes it an approachable varietal for anyone new to the world of wine. With its fresh, tropical fruit characters, unoaked style, and sheer drinkability, Australian Verdelho is always a crowd-pleaser. Start here before moving into more full-bodied styles like Chardonnay, Roussanne and Viognier.

80% of All Verdelho Vines are Found in Australia

Hailing from the Portuguese island of Madeira, off the coast of Morocco, Verdelho first came to Australia in 1825 and was used in the production of fortified wines. Since then, the vines have flourished down under, with around 80% of the global production of Verdelho coming from Australia. We have well and truly made it our own.

Verdelho now features in modern, fruit-driven, dry white table wines that offer great value with most bottles being priced under $25.

Hundreds of Wineries to Choose From

With over 400 Australian wineries producing Verdelho, you will never be starved for choice. Verdelho thrives in warmer climates with some of the finest coming out of Western Australia and NSW's Hunter Valley. Some great starting points include the Tulloch Winemakers Reserve 2017 and Pepper Tree Verdelho 2018 both representing the Hunter Valley. For a sample of WA, try the Peos Estate Four Kings 2017 or the Arimia Verdelho 2017.
