Set your taste buds to fun! More Coriole class - CORIOLE SANGIOVESE 2023 A cleverly made wine from Coriole, sourced from some of the oldest Sangiovese vines in Australia, this Sangio is light in body, but high in complexity. Finely woven aromas of bay leaves, rhubarb, blood orange, mocha and red cherries lead to fine, savoury layers of cherries, plums, black tea, cloves and blackberries. Great length. Pairing and cellaring Pairing and cellaring Senior winemaker Duncan Lloyd opts for a classic Neapolitan with fragrant basil and creamy, melted mozzarella. Cellar till 2027. CORIOLE.COM Stellar Sangio - THE LITTLE WINE COMPANY SANGIOVESE 2023 One of the early pioneers of this varietal in the Hunter Valley, and in this wine, the experience shows. Light to medium weighted fruits of fresh and sour cherries, baked rhubarb, and fresh and clean lines of savoury sweet and sour complexity. A seductive, silky soft texture with a fine and delicate finish. A great food companion for almost anything! Pairing and cellaring Owner and winemaker Suzanne Little suggests a prosciutto, olives and fresh basil pizza. Cellar for 2-6 years. THELITTLEWINECOMPANY.COM.AU Winter warmer - MITOLO G.A.M. SHIRAZ 2021 Named for owner Frank's children, this is a real fireside winter treat! Rich, seductive and syrupy aromatics driven by concentrated blackberries, cloves, cassis, wet earth, mushrooms, and black cherries in a lovely sweet/ sour balance. Plush mouthfeel awash with blackberries, black tea, black cherries, cooking spice and cooking chocolate. Elegantly made, serious and intense. Pairing and cellaring Founder Frank Mitolo enjoys matching this with Frankie Italo's soppressata pizza mozzarella, spianata salami, rughetta and Parmigiano. Cellar for 5-12 years. MITOLOWINES.COM.AU Seriously slurpable - PIKES LUCCIO SANGIOVESE 2023 This is the ultimate mid week pizza wine! Earth driven, medium weighted and compressed aromatics of chinotto and black cherry. The palate is slippery and viscous with nicely rounded layers of red and black cherries, softly baked raspberries and strawberry. A generous and easy to drink Sangio, with a nicely defined, fine tannin driven finish. Pairing and cellaring Steve Baraglia, chief winemaker at Pikes, opts for a mushroom, speck and chilli pizza topped with fior di latte, thyme, Parmesan and a free range egg. Cellar for 2-5 years. PIKESWINES.COM.AU Poised perfection - MITOLO PERDITO PECORINO 2024 Another exceptional example of Mitolo's prowess with this varietal. Tightly wound, fresh aromatics of peach skin, un ripe lemons, honeysuckle and elderflower, and an underlying creaminess within the characteristics as it opens up. Tight, fresh and elegant entry of white peach, lemon pith, just ripe apricots and nectarines that flow over a delicately layered balance of minerals, fruit and citrus skin. Pairing and cellaring Winemaker Luke Mallaby suggests Frankie Italo's 'Patate' pizza (taleggio cheese, Mitolo potatoes, tropea red onion and rosemary). Cellar for 4-7 years. MITOLOWINES.COM.AU Supreme sparkles - PETERSON HOUSE SPARKLING CHAMBOURCIN 2022 A rare example of this little known classic variety from the Hunter's long time sparkling legend. Aromatics are laced with savoury mountain herbs underlying fresh and dried cherries and raspberries. An elegant, food friendly alternative to AustraliaÕs more common classic sparkling Shiraz, the palate is light on its feet and zippy with sweet and savoury blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. Pairing and cellaring A drink now wine that Cellar Door supervisor Natasha Schatz pairs with a smokey, wood-fired supreme.
