Rags to riches
History
Two lovers of wine, Paul Byron and Harold (Ralph) Dunning joined forces with vigneron Andrew Lane to form Byron & Harold. With more than 65 years combined experience in wine, they meticulously seek out parcels of wine they know Australian wine lovers will love. Based in WA’s Great Southern, Byron & Harold deliver wines with flavour, true to their variety – wines with provenance.
Tasting Notes
Byron & Harold's Rags to Riches Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 from the Margaret River region presents a beautiful dark red colour with a crimson hue. On the nose, it allures with beautiful aromas of dark berry, savoury spice, dried herbal nuances and a hint of dark chocolate. Ripe red berry flavours fill the palate, supported by mint mocha flavours, with fine yet firm tannins leading to a long savoury finish.
The 2016 Vintage
The 2016 growing season had higher than average rainfall late in winter, with more in early spring, increasing soil moisture. October was unseasonably warm, which combined with the increased soil moisture, caused slightly higher than normal vine growth. The growing period was longer and milder, favouring the earlier ripening varieties. Overall, a challenging, cooler vintage resulting in leaner, elegant more complex, austere styles.

+ Food
A savoury Cabernet with hints of mint, this is a classic lamb partner, so cook up a winter feast of lamb ragout with pappardelle.
