The 2009 vintage in the Hunter Valley was fantastic, resulting in great wines like this Chardonnay, which carries on Vat 47’s winning tradition with its three Gold medals.
The fruit for the Vat 47 was hand picked and a portion basket pressed. After cold settling, the juice was partially fermented in stainless steel before being transferred into new, one and two-year-old French oak barriques where it was matured on yeast lees for six months prior to blending and bottling.
A triple Gold medal winner by winemaker Andrew Spinaze, it presents lifted vanilla, citrus, peach and light oak on the nose. The vibrant and savoury palate has a tightly wound core of majestic citrus and peach fruit over toasty oak. Amazingly persistent and long with a cashew-like complexity and velvety texture.
