Low in calories and high in protein, tofu continues to be the most popular and versatile alternative to meat yet devised and this recipe for deep fried soft tofu in soy with show you just how delicious it can be.

Ingredients

300g firm tofu

30ml cornflour

Oil (for deep-frying)

 

Dipping sauce

200ml dashi

3 tbsp soy sauce

3 tbsp Obento Mirin

 

Garnish

1 spring onion (chopped)

10g bonito flakes

Method

1. Cut the well-drained tofu into 4 large pieces and dip into the cornflour. Deep-fry the tofu for 6–8 mins until golden.

2. Make the dipping sauce by combining the ingredients together in a small pan and bring to simmer.

3. Place tofu in a bowl, pour the warm dipping sauce over the tofu, top with spring onion and bonito flakes.
