The Grenache for this wine was sourced from vines planted by Burton Hamilton, Richard Hamilton’s father, in 1947. The 2011 vintage was low yielding for Grenache and the fruit from these dry-land grown, bush vines was selected for quality on the vine.
It was then hand harvested and fermented in two small fermenters to dryness then gently pressed before being oak matured in predominantly older French oak after malo-lactic fermentation.
A fresh, aromatic mix of red cherry, anise and black pepper precedes a juicy and generous palate driven by rich black and spicy red fruits supported by velvety tannins creating appealing Rhône-like harmony.
