It’s a gentle giant with brooding, mouth-filling blackberry, liquorice and prune, deep and long tannins, bright balancing acidity and delicious barrel spice.
Durif originated in the Rhône Valley of France, but has been grown in Rutherglen for over a century. It’s a variety that makes bold wines, like this 2019 beauty from De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate! It displays an intense palate with lashings of inky dark plum, prune and dark cherry, satiny and rounded mouthfeel, espresso-like tannins and plenty of charry oak. Sweet, rich and ripe.
