Once Australia’s most used red wine variety, Grenache has a long and successful history as a Fortified wine. As tastes have changed, it’s now being grown with great success as a straight or blended table red. Grenache is suited to Australia’s warm, dry regions in Australia, and is unique in the fact that it is almost exclusively cultivated in one state – South Australia where it’s made in the regions of Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Langhorne Creek. Its dominant characters are red fruits, bright, mocha tinged cherries and natural forest floor layers.
