Pinot Gris is one of the Southern Highlands' key varieties thanks to the cool, elevated vineyards, and the Southern Highland Winery SHW Pinot Gris 2019 is an excellent example of the plush style that can be achieved. It displays an earthy and plush palate with a bright mix of peach and melon, toasty complexity, silken mouthfeel and a long, savoury finish. Quite savoury and textural.
Hirsch Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2020 is a great example of one of the Yarra Valley's core varieties, and although youthful, is already displaying faint secondary notes, adding deeper complexity. Very elegant with satin-soft fruit weight, it features very fine tannins, some stalky energy and drive, and savoury oak in support. Drinking well already.
