Moss Brothers The Essence of Margaret River

Established in Wilyabrup in 1984 by viticulturist Jeff Moss, Moss Brothers has been a face of premium Margaret River wines for more than 35 years.

One of the most isolated and pure grape growing regions, Margaret River is home to the oldest soils in the world despite the first vines having been planted only 50 years ago. Surrounded on three sides by the Indian and Southern Oceans, Margaret River’s maritime influence provides natural assistance from wind, rain, and sun at just the right time of year—the perfect grape growing climate.

With optimal growing conditions and beautiful, moderate temperatures, Margaret River is considered one of the world’s premium wine regions.

Built into the fibres of the Margaret River region, Moss Brothers has “watched the area evolve over time to become a home for people who enjoy the unique coastline, an evening surf, and a killer glass of wine.” Proud of their roots, they say, “We couldn’t be happier to be a part of it all and aim to capture the area’s lively spirit in every drop of wine we produce.”

With an initial focus on Sauvignon Blanc blends, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, Moss Brothers has grown to master these highly regarded regional classics along with Malbec, Margaret River’s unsung hero, and Australia’s backbone, Shiraz.

As said by Moss Brothers’ Head Winemaker, Rory Parks, “Our wines are powerful, approachable and expressive. Every wine is a reflection of the uniqueness of place and personality that comprises the entirety of the Margaret River wine region. This renowned area produces uniquely blended and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, generously textured Chardonnay and powerful and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines.”

Moss Brothers’ Fidium, Moses Rock, and namesake Moss Brothers wine ranges are testaments to their regional terroir and heritage, each paying homage to their home through the stories behind each wine. “Our all-consuming aim is to capture the essence of the Margaret River whilst also exploring the single vineyard expression of our flagship vineyard just outside Margaret River Township.”

FIDIUM

The Latin word meaning ‘attuned’, ‘Fidium’ is all about reflecting a sense of place and “being attuned with the vineyard – its cycles, its idiosyncrasies, its aspect and of course its full terroir profile.”

A collection of ultra-premium Margaret River favourites— Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Malbec— Fidium delivers the very best expression of their flagship vineyard and partnering low yielding vineyards from which the fruit for these wines are sourced. The winemaking team believe “their history, their microclimates, their constraints, their nuances all need to be respected and harnessed” to cultivate “grapes that can be transformed into wines of great depth and character.”

MOSES ROCK

Symbolised galloping across this label is the wild stallion named ‘Moses Rock’ who roamed the Wilyabrup region of Margaret River in the 1920s. “Legend has it, he was named after the very popular surf break, because of his energy, spirit and wild temperament.”

Moss Brothers “strive to reflect his life-force and personality in every bottle, with the signature varietals of the region that have made Margaret River famous.” This range captures the true varietal and regional characteristics of premium Margaret River Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with the Moss Brothers flair.

MOSS BROTHERS

The eponymous Moss Brothers wine range is the workhorse of their portfolio. Across the board, the spotlight is on the fruit in the Moss Brothers Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Late Harvest. These wines are “a very considered and practised combination of quality fruit drawn from some of Western Australia’s most respected wine growers blended with the skill and experience of [the] winemaking team to achieve layered wines with focus on their flavour, texture and mouth-feel.”

The winemaking team explains the warm days and cool sea breezes at night “deliver a long even ripening period where acidity is retained, and flavour developed to allow full expression of the varietal flavours and aromas.” With the strong maritime influence on the Moss Brothers’ vineyards the exact elements are in place to produce complex wines with drive and depth.
