Identical to Traminer, Savagnin hails from the French region of Jura and was planted in Australia as Albariño only for its real identity to be discovered by a visiting French botantist. All wines thought to be Albariño are now labelled as Savagnin. With a similar weight to Verdelho and Gewürztraminer, it thrives in cool to moderate climates such as Mornington Peninsula, Barossa Valley, King Valley and McLaren Vale.
